Who Should I Host My Web Site With?
Lots of companies offer hosting. Most registrars do, some web designers do, the big ISPs do.
You can get cheap hosting – beware here – cheap isn’t always best. Cheap hosting often needs to be volume hosting, is often offshore, is often not as fast as it should be and timely support isn’t always available. If support is the issue you will either be wasting your own time or that of your web designer.
The person best qualified to answer this question is your Web designer. If your designer has an arrangement with a host, this will be your best choice. It may be a couple of dollars more expensive, but since the designer’s lines of communications are already set up, you will not be paying for his time sitting in phone queues waiting to get some support.
Your hosting will have different requirements depending on the type of site you are going to have. If you are starting off with a basic site then any type of hosting will work (some faster than others, some more secure than others and some more expensive than others). But be aware that if you intend to add more components down the track (for example, visitor logins, secure email forms, blogs, forums, shopping cart or any other sort of database requirement) your host will need to also be able to offer this type of package. Again your web designer is the best person to advise. Hopefully you've discussed with him with your requirements for the different phases of your web site. This isn't daunting as a good web designer will make sure you are guided in the right direction.
You do need to have a good business relationship with your Web designer. Your designer needs to be someone who can offer you excellent support and customer service.
